Special concrete footers were dug and poured, then the 2 blocks were stood up on their ends.

A hydraulic chain saw was used to remove the large areas of waste stone.

Meg inspects the waste pieces - what can be carved from them?

A crane removed the large pieces of waste and set the metal geodesic frame over the project. Friends helped us pull the cover over the frame to keep the winter weather off of us while we worked.

The outline of the figures was graphed onto the flat sides. The waste was removed from that direction with chisels.

The figures were graphed onto the stone from the other direction and the background was carved back from the figures.
