ARTIST STATEMENT
Don Lawler creates sculptures in stone, usually on a monumental scale, for outdoor sites. This artist has a distinct and individual style. He uses textured intertwining forms that playfully interact with polished geometric or figurative forms. Although he uses the ancient medium of stone, his work is unlike anything previously produced.
His main focus is the creation of strong compositional designs that illustrate various conceptual themes. Don believes that his sculptures must exhibit 3 traits: Concept, Design and Craftsmanship. He wants his artwork to speak in the timeless, universal language of scale, proportion, composition and texture. It has been the sculptor’s life-long endeavor to refine his artistic ‘Voice’. The artist strives to create a body of work that is fresh and original.
Don Lawler has 24 years of full-time professional experience with the methods and materials involved in the production of monumental-scale stone sculpture. He has worked successfully with design teams to create public works of art. His work appears in public, private and corporate collections around the country and internationally, including Florence, Italy. Having completed numerous projects within budget, he understands the need for a sculpture to endure with minimal maintenance while keeping public safety as a top priority. Don wants his sculpture to impart a “WOW” moment to the viewer and to remain enjoyable and thought provoking for generations into the future. |
